Der Drakos: Blood To Blood
Whilst not inhabiting the music as phenomenon/ document approach that I appreciate about
the Power Electronics/Old School Industrial field this release definitely inhabits the
realm of music as sex/drinking/speeding soundtrack. The female vocals remind me of the GI
Joe cartoon Cobra Baroness which put simply is just plain sexy as hell. The male vocals
are deep Eastern European accented spoken lyrics and remind me of samples in Feindflug
somewhat or Wumpscut samples, they have that nice chorus/ phaser/ reverb? touch to them.
It sounds somewhat like Vlad Zladko has really become the antipope, got himself a drum
machine and a hot girl and has declared make love make war.
The pace is upbeat throughtout and the production and mixing is well done. There is no
second rate studio effort here. I really don't fall for the
cool cuz it's creepy attitude of rivetheads, something I myself am not and never have
been, but there are some bands that bring something to the picture I could refer to as
novelty appeal such as Sheep on Drugs and this band straddles that with the themes of lust
for sexy young girls, European Nationalism without apologies, and Satanism. A person with
that peripheral a stance and rolling into the dancefloor like a mainstream act has a charm
about it I can admire if only because the worse cunts won't like it. Sort of like a Lords
of Acid, Funkervogt etc not comprised of soccer playing fucking dorks, neo-hippies/ or
stoner losers, no harm in that.
It's cheesy ( part of the appeal for me, part of my aversion to the style doubtless) but
it is also unapologetic and doing it's thing on it's own terms so if you like this sort of
music and you stand outside the circle of white guilty suck asses busy feeling bad about a
history no different then any other cultures then enjoy, finally a band with music you
will probably like with a message you will definitely like and if this sort of style is
not your sort of thing, you might just appreciate that it is being done anyways. I'm not
into this style generally and so I don't mean to convey at all that this is an amateur
effort in that field, as I said it is well mixed, layered, and upbeat, just not my thing
personally stylistically.
For me the biggest failings of E(MO)BM is the proliferation of spineless love songs by
nancy boy cyber romeo's, the general lack of musical writing talent that is typically
poorly "band aid" covered by a heavy use of state of the art ear candy sounds
doing nothing interesting really, and the general tendency to go at a boring pace I find
annoyingly not fast nor slow enough to find enjoyable. I can say this release avoids all
that annoying shit. It uses some guitars. I really don't like electric guitars, especially
hybrid styles with electric guitar, so that did not appeal to me. Guitars don't feature
into every song. Generally in this genre all the songs on an album suck for nearly all the
bands and you have to wait for the remix singles to hear the artists put the effort into
their songs they should have put into the album in the first fucking place. In that regard
this album stands a cut above the typical output in that things change, melodies go into
change ups, things at points may carry on a little too long for me but there is song
writing and evolution in there and so hell that places them as an elite in this genre, you
get a song on the actual album, not just the shitty demo that later sounds like a song on
the follow up singles when better bands turn these usual shitty bands "hits"
into shit worth listening to.
The release comes in a digipack with silk screened? disc and glossy color booklet, no
stinting on quality there. I'm also sort of partial to the images of the leather hooded
naked girl (Susi Medvsa?) that feature in the cd booklet but that just comes down to being
a total male pig with no apologies. I'd better not hear any grumbles on that account if
God and Beast or Hail the Flame are in your collection!
Hail Der Drakos, filling our dancefloors with sexy, proud white girls that misanthrope
fucks like us can stumble into the bar and pick up 5 minutes before close.
(Perhaps I can get a cd of Susi Medvsa talking dirty to me from the band, one can hope.)

Justin's review:
"Thank you for
your great words. Usually people who are deep into politics of any 'left' or 'right' color
and variation, they always have 'a problem' towards pure instinctive art, looking at it
from their ideological tight ass point of view. Very good to see you can just enjoy life
also! And sheer diabolical lust: that's where we all come from. Yes we don't follow any
kind of ideology: just our European animal will for fun, beauty and survival at all costs.
The girl in the booklet is not Susi, is an 18y.old chick that was freezing in our garage
last Winter with the two torches in her hands, during a private rave with photosession. We
will post this review in our websites, because we just do what WE fucking like! Hails from
our clan."
