DerDRAKOS INTERVIEW FOR "INDUSTRIALIZED METAL" Webzine, Holland

"This DerDRAKOS Interview is something that you will love or you will just hate. It is more than just music and style, this is Western neo-Pagan/Satanic/Atheist spiritual warfare, raising industrial music to a much more powerful and dangerous level. No compromise. Either you're there or not. And even trying to label us would be useless: we are not an 'alternative band' or a 'satanic band' or anything 'cool' like that. We do have precise instincts. As Nietzsche said long time ago, people has not yet learned to use ideologies, instead of being their dumb apostles and victims." - DerDRAKOS

1. Hi, and thanks for your time! First of all, please introduce your project to the readers who are not familiar with it.

DerDRAKOS: We are Alex Drakos and S.J.Drakos. We create and produce high energy electronic music tracks. We have founded our band in early 2005. Our plan is to create wild power to blast in your cars, clubs, homes, raves and individual wars.

2. Since you are a father-son project, I am pretty curious to know the answer on this question: how did things get started with DerDrakos?

DerDRAKOS: The younger one, Alex Drakos was born with Atari's, Sega's and Playstations in his hands. The older one, S.J.Drakos was playing bass and guitar showing his son how the computer programs and drum machines were working. We soon realized that we both liked the powerful hammering base of techno music, but were laughing at the silly sounds and nonsense vocals they usually put over it. So we started our experiments of hard electronica with hard guitars (which is still anathema for both the techno and the metal scenes, but we don't give a damn and just do what we want). Then we decided to: 1) build our own tracks, 2) invite our best friend, artist SuzyMG to cast the spell of her special voice on the track lines, and also do her amazing graphics for our covers, 3) produce and propagate our CD's.

3. What are your main influences? And how would you describe your music?

DerDRAKOS: Our music is called Industrial Techno. It is made of sheer power, as simple and brutal as the animal instinct and intelligence: they work through the connections of nerves in our brain and body that convey the electricity of movements and of decisions. This is also how the mediums or any persons involved in psychic practices call the spirits: electricity with will. And the Moon is a huge magnet, lightnings are electric blasts, etc. As artists, we elaborate this cosmic strength that flows in our veins through the machines that we have at our disposal. About the influences from other musicians in our sound we don't know what to say exactly, you may just guess it by yourself.

4. How do you guys create your songs?

DerDRAKOS: By burning our minds on the keyboards searching for the best lines, sounds, arrangements, lyrics, singing, mixing and recording of every track. We hate everything that tastes of fucking 'Goodness', we like to shoot our mind's iron on this world through our hard kicks, our visions and our writings.

5. Now lets talk about your album. It came out this year, and got various good critics from DJs and zines all over the world. But, how do you look upon the "Lust for Chaos" CD yourself? And did you expect these great responses?

DerDRAKOS: It's interesting to see the reactions from different people: they dance to DerDRAKOS and have their own sensations and points of view on every song, this is great, they email us thoughts on how they feel about us. The support that we are getting from many DJs, radios, magazines and our Fans, is super. "Lust for Chaos" is the first release of our art and sound, we just started, there’s much more under construction.

6. What is your favourite song of the album, and why?

S.J.DRAKOS: Maybe "Out Of Control" for the matching of guitars and techno that we did in full hot summertime, or "Dictator Girls Rule" which is my taste about ladies.
Alex Drakos: "Joy Thru Fury" because I made it in less than one month, ha ha. But I like the whole CD, specially the cover with my face on it.
SuzyMG
: "Lust For Chaos", it's pure energy, the lyrics I sing are also a tribute to the 1960 movie "The Mask Of Satan" ("Come closer, look into my eyes" of awesome British actress Barbara Steele).

7. The album sounds really agressive and Satanic, while the lyrics are really supportive to this. Are you guys Satanists yourselves, and how do you look upon this world?

S.J.DRAKOS: Everyone knows that 'God' does not exist, is a typical middle-Eastern hoax. Instead, we can feel very well the presence of mighty energies from the abyss of Nature, which we can evocate and unleash through the powers of art and technology: they are our great ancient Demons. This is the very essence, the roots of our European culture and identity. All those revolting monotheistic fairy tales are nothing but alien tyranny, they have nothing to do with the free spirit of us Europeans: we are wild and ironic just like our own eternal Demons. And we are still deeply Pagan, Diabolical, Atheists, Magic, Rational and possess much sense of humour even after centuries of alien mind-repression. It's a force that we have under our skin, we must learn to use it again. The fast rage that we are releasing through our DerDRAKOS tracks is no teenage whining: it's the fury that comes from thousands years of alienation from our own original nature. Our industrial music is bringing our Western Demons back (we will never call them 'Gods' again, because that word has been poisoned forever by the miserable lonely-God)... You ask us if we're Satanists: if by the word Satan you mean Dionysos, the fierce Hellenic spirit of joy, then our answer is Hell Yes! But there's much more that fuels our instinctive scorn and total riot. We look around us and what do we see everywhere? Politicians from the 'left' to the 'right' who are all the same comedians with their lousy little 'values', sociologists and psychologists (that sort of fashionable brain-priests telling everyone 'what is wrong in you') and smiling preachers of a pathetic 'world brotherhood', holy teachers of 'tolerance', morality mothers castrating you 'for your own good' (that's their typical phrase), cheap sharks who became saints of the blessed market, vicars of old stupid religions and their ass-licking hysterical nutters, effeminate musicians who squeak for the 'love of mankind', plus all the clownish press, tv and media bullshit thrown in our face every single day. All these buffoons will never lift one finger for you, but they demand for you to be 'good' and 'correct'. They need you to be weak, half-ill, afraid to call things with their real name, full of guilt, remorse, forgiveness, compassion and other wholesale idiocies, so you will be their fat 'buyer'. They are all preaching your submission to nothingness, your comfortable annihilation... Now what can you do to free yourself from this global squalor? First, a healthy laugh. Never forget that we are the descendants of very cruel warriors and witches. We can masticate those poor fucks. Stand strong and proud in your own world, and create. You have the Devils inside, it's your own fire. Our wise Pagan ancestors used to say that freedom lies on the edge of your sword, so you better stay powerful!

8. Are you doing live shows as well? If no, are you planning on doing them in the future? And if yes: what can a stranger expect when he visits a live show of you?

DerDRAKOS: Yes we play live. It's a release of vital energy for everyone.

9. To me, Czech Republic is mostly known for their excellent grindcore and death metal scene. But how is the industrial scene in Czech Republic? And what are your personal experiences when it comes to the Czech people and your music?

DerDRAKOS: We come from Greek/Italian families. CZ is just great. However, we are more into the worldwide scene than just a local one. And people is sick everywhere, the whole planet looks like is going to enter into a new world war pretty soon, many bands are laying down the soundtrack for the big show. We'll see.

10. What can we expect of DerDrakos in the future?

DerDRAKOS: We keep burning new tracks all the time, trying to go deeper into the storms of our minds. With new she-Wolf lyrics too, as the female element of superior charm is very important for us.

11. The interview ends here, thanks a lot. If you have some final words to add, please do it here.

DerDRAKOS: Use our tracks to be young and strong, boys and girls. We love to see your eyes Devil-red with joy thru fury.
